Assurances & Insurance For Food Donors
ANGEL HARVEST Board of Directors implemented these steps to assure you, the food donor, protection in your good faith donation of food that will feed the hungry men, women, and children of Los Angeles
The donor is protected
- The California State Good Samaritan Law states that you shall not be subject to criminal penalty or be sued for civil damages arising from a good faith donation of food which appears fit for human consumption and is given for free distribution.
The Bill Emerson Federal Good Samaritan Law sits on top of the California Law for your added protection.
- All the social service agencies before receiving any food must first sign a legal waiver both
(A) agreeing to receive the food "as is" and
(B) releasing you, the donor, from any liability resulting from the condition of the food.
- ANGEL HARVEST purchases additional insurance on the food.
The food remains wholesome
- ANGEL HARVEST works in accordance with the Health Department, setting up an efficient, sanitary system for responsible handling of the food.
- All ANGEL HARVEST drivers must successfully complete the Health Department's Safe Food Course.
- ANGEL HARVEST vehicles are refrigerated with freezing capacity to maintain the food at a proper temperature.
And that the needy receive a healthy meal
- All donated food is re-assessed at every step of the way by ANGEL HARVEST and the social service agency's staff to insure safety.
- 2. All receiving agencies must have an on-site visit by a qualified ANGEL HARVEST member to verify their responsible handling of the food and that the meals are being served free of charge.
