Brian S. Weiner, Secretary / Treasurer
President ALLIED ADVISORS, LLC
Angel Harvest is a labor of love for Brian Weiner. A graduate of Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts, he is passionate about the legal and social ramifications of hunger and homelessness. From childhood, he has always been involved in charitable works and remembers volunteering with his Temple Youth Group at Los Angeles’ Gramercy Shelter. One evening on the bus ride home, he noticed children living on LA’s skid row – it was a cold night and they had no coats. The next day, he organized a successful blanket drive and collected thousands of blankets for the city’s homeless and was honored by Mayor Tom Bradley. As an adult, Brian, by his own admission, is still a “roll up my sleeves kind of guy” and prefers to take an active role in business and philanthropic endeavors. An entrepreneur at heart, he was a principal in an advertising firm acquired by Primedia in 1999. He went on to serve as Deputy Trade Commissioner for the Government of Israel, facilitating the import of Israeli products and services into the southwestern U.S. and worked as a Financial Consultant for Smith Barney, representing the interests of business, high net-worth families and charitable organizations. In his current position, President of Allied Advisors, LLC, he calls on this wealth of experience to create unique and customized Wealth Management Plans. It is Brian’s tight grasp of financial management and dedication to others that make him an invaluable member of the Angel Harvest team. “This is the United States,” he says. “There is no reason in this millennium that we should have hungry people.” He prides himself on being a “doer” and believes an organization’s success, whether professional, political or philanthropic, must tap into the entrepreneurial spirit in people while leveraging their skills to effect change.
Mary Micucci, Vice President and
Food Council Founder and Owner ALONG CAME MARY
PRODUCTIONS
An Angel Harvest Board Member from the beginning, Mary Micucci’s reputation as the pre-eminent LA party planner affords her a unique opportunity with the organization. In addition to her volunteer role as a Vice President, her company, Along Came Mary Productions, regularly donates food overages to Angel Harvest. Since 1975 Mary has helped heads of state, studio executives and celebrities plan elaborate parties, cater star-studded events and though her unassuming manner belies her popularity, she has been called, “the Epicurean Steven Spielberg.” Growing up in a warm-hearted Italian family, she fondly remembers the importance of mealtimes. For a woman who built a career on hospitality, Angel Harvest was a natural extension of her generosity and values. In her professional efforts Mary “moves heaven and earth to make fantasy a reality.” In her role with Angel Harvest she works to bring that same spirit of family and generosity to those in Los Angeles who need it most.
Shawn S. Gabbaie, Vice President
Founder and Owner
EXECUTIVE PROPERTIES, INC.
A man who travels the world shares with his community. Shawn earned a JD in law from the University of La Verne in 2000. His diverse interests lead him into the field of real estate and other entrepreneurial ventures that have always have a real estate element to them. Meeting the needs of his customers, Executive Properties, Inc. now offers a board base of services including Management, Brokerage, Sales, Investment, Loan Services, and Entertainment and Hospitality Consultation Services. A new venture combining his interests and interest in good food inspired his partnership in a new restaurant in Los Angeles called BLD on Beverly. Currently Shawn is also serving as a board member with ARM- HIBM, a non-profit organization focusing on finding a cure for a muscle debilitating disease. With this group he had organized numerous successful fundraisers, raising almost $500,000 during the past few years. Volunteering with non-profit organizations has become a passion to Shawn. When not working, he is an avid traveler while enjoying casual dining with my friends anywhere.
Carole Shandler, Vice President and
Food Council President
S G S PRODUCE
Carole Shandler grew up in the San Fernando Valley, moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA, and graduated USC Law School to pass the California State Bar Exam in 1983. Since that time she has enjoyed a general, but varied practice working for organizations like the American Kennel Club and with industry, specifically agri-business, while practicing both family and real estate law in addition to pro bono work. Passionate about giving back, Carole chose to train her career focus on certain areas throughout her life – and along the way made time to volunteer for numerous charitable organizations like Children of the Night, J-Gurlz, The Downtown Women’s Center and Cornerstone Church. In her current role as President of S-G-S Produce, a family owned / operated company since 1907, Carole oversees the day-to-day operations of a busy full-service wholesale produce company that is a true Los Angeles institution. Like other board members, she too readily uses her professional accomplishments to benefit the organization donating time, produce and trucks to the Angel Harvest effort. While she enjoys her work with other good causes, Carol confides that Angel Harvest is near and dear to her heart because hunger is pervasive even though there is plenty to give. “In a city as prosperous as ours and as warm as people can be here, there’s absolutely no reason why any child or adult should feel hunger,” she says. “I am willing to do whatever I can to help.”
Victoria Arias Fraasa, Vice
President Producer FILM PRODUCTION SERVICES
With an abundance of creative talent and a sharp head for numbers, Victoria Fraasa has a gift for knowing what it takes to bring in a feature film or commercial on time and well within budget. As owner of her own production company, Film Production Services, Inc., she is both a successful producer and distinguished filmmaker in her own right. Her extensive resume boasts a distinguished list of films and commercial credits from Los Angeles to New York and abroad in Ireland. Her unique contribution to Angel Harvest is measured in countless ways, particularly her understanding of how to accomplish more with less; a prized skill in the realm of non-profits and moviemaking. Even with the demands of running her own film production company and directing short films, Victoria Arias Fraasa still finds time to lend a helping hand to Los Angeles’ hungry taking an active role as an Angel Harvest board member. She shines in the areas of problem-solving and creative crisis management; skills that benefit Angel Harvest and LA’s hungry and homeless. |
