Within any community, no matter how large or small there is so much good food available. Although there is nothing wrong with the food it will be wasted. Here in America if there were only three melons left in the store, no one will buy any even though there is nothing wrong with them. We are now so spoiled that we must have a large stack of melons to get the best one for ourselves. So those three perfect melons will go in the trash tonight at the local grocery store. “I firmly believe that there is enough food in each city, good food that is currently being wasted, that can feed everyone who is hungry.” ANGEL HARVEST’s Founder Helen Palit The retail store gives the pre-made salads, sandwiches, and quick snacks that were not sold yesterday; they have new ones to sell today. The restaurant’s special soup and entrees yesterday will not be on the menu today. The gallon or two of soup and the large tray of the lasagna with another large bag of the greens cut for yesterdays salads are ready for pick up to be the shelter’s lunch. The rains came last night preventing many of the guests scheduled for the caterer’s dinner never arrived. The appetizers, salads, entrees, vegetables, rolls and desserts for 200 guests that were un-served is here. The blue lemonade did not sell even though the national manufacturer’s marketing department planned for a sell out campaign. Instead two semi-tractor trailer each loaded with 50,000 of the drink were delivered. They even included a letter stating the blue coloring is simply food coloring added to their best selling yellow lemonade. The orchard’s trees were full of apples. The fruit company pickers grabbed the perfect apples, leaving 30% of the delicious ones in the trees. With a volunteer team these apples are harvested for many apple pies and afternoon snacks. The list goes on. Every company and organization, at some time, may have good food that is leftover and they chose to donate. Harvest List is a small sampling of the food from one month, just to give you a taste of the abundance. Fun Food is another example of the bounty that up until now was wasted. Enjoy the harvest.
