ANGEL HARVEST manages four different distribution systems for maximum efficiency of time and money while maintaining the freshness of the food donated plus the timeliness of getting the food on the table for those in need.
Volunteers picking up and delivering small amounts of food in the geographic area they live or work. A small retailer or bakery or company may, on a regular basis, have leftovers. ANGEL HARVEST coordinates and confirms all of the details in advance with the team. The volunteer with their vehicle, within an agreed upon schedule with the company, picks up their food in disposal containers supplied by the company. A nearby food program that can use that type and amount of food has agreed to receive the food within the established time frame. The average pick up for the volunteer could be 30 to 80 pounds. The volunteer pick up and delivery system is perfect for small amounts with a close proximity between resource and need. That donated food can be part of a hungry person’s next meal.
Semi-tractor trailers are unloaded at an established time and convenient location convenient and, in a timely manner. ANGEL HARVEST determines the day and time of delivery with the donor and then contacts all of our approved member agencies. We ask the agency if they want that type of food and if they are willing to send a dependable person in their vehicle to the food. With confirmation, they are allocated a minimum amount of the food and an appointment is arranged for the site. An average pick up for the agency could be one hundred to five hundred pounds of food. The entire off-loading is managed off-site by ANGEL HARVEST. Within four hours, but usually two hours the entire trailer is unloaded and all of the agencies have more free food for their next meal.
Agency’s pickup directly from food donors. When there is a donor who on a regular basis has the type and amount of food that seems to be a good match for a nearby feeding program, ANGEL HARVEST will orchestrate the process. Both the food donor and the agency agree to the schedule and the expected food volume. Depending on the donor and the agency an average pick up and could be up to several hundred pounds. This is a direct link from source to need. This is perfect for regular manageable amounts of food within a close proximity.
Professional truck drivers, staff of ANGEL HARVEST manage their regular routes of donations as well as the spontaneous call-ins. Our drivers trained by the Heath Department, have the experience and skill to handle large bulky loads. They know the logistics well, moving around the city despite of the traffic while meeting the food donor’s schedule and needs. Average food pickups could be 800 pounds from a caterer, 500 from a retailer and 12 pallets from a produce company weighing 6,000 pounds for the day. Another 900 to 2,000 might be added on late night catered events, picking up enough leftovers for 500 people to enjoy the next day. Our system is designed and maintained like what the top national transportation companies use. Our drivers continue driving until all of the food is donated and the truck is empty, ready for the next day’s donations. We deliver the food immediately so it can be the next meal and without the expense of time and money for storage costs.
Like the top transportation companies, our systems too are designed and maintained well.
It is smart, it is simple, and it works.
Enjoy the harvest.
